Are the majority of people stupid?

For example, in the United States, are the majority of people ill-informed, ignorant, uneducated, close-minded, self-serving, or in general just plain dumb? I am not condemning the U.S. and saying everyone is stupid. I am saying that most people are stupid, not all. I am speaking from a statistical standpoint. Is there any evidence to prove this? I feel it must be true but I need some evidence.
